Hiring the right blogging coach can help you progress with your blog much faster, turning it from a side hustle into a lucrative full time business.
Sometimes we need someone to bounce ideas off, get a fresh set of eyes on our content or pick someones brain who has trod the same path previously.
And blog coaches aren’t just for those getting started blogging either. All savvy bloggers including other blog coaches will have business coaches in some capacity or other.
No matter how long you have blogged for or how much experience you have, there is ALWAYS more to learn, new strategies to try, ideas to brainstorm.
Whilst I am a blog coach myself (specialising in passive income strategies,) I also pay for coaching and my coach also has a business coach (and she probably has a coach too…)
Sometimes it’s just about having someone to bounce off – like a business partner who you don’t have to split your profits 50:50 with!
But hiring the wrong coach would not only be expensive but it could be damaging. I’ve seen a LOT of bad blogging advice been thrown around in the blogosphere.
Which is why I wrote this article to help you choose the right blog coaching sessions for you.
Firstly, are you ready for a blog coach?
Before you whip out your credit card and book the first coaching services you see, the first question you need to ask yourself is are you ready for a blog coach?
Blogging coaching services for beginners.
I don’t recommend starting from day one with a coach. There are plenty of free blog articles that will show you step-by-step how to get started such as my article – how to start a profitable blog in 2026.
At this point, you just need to get started, test things out, find out what you enjoy and where your passions lie.
Yes it’ll be easier to work it all out with a little help but at this stage, I would recommend reading some blog posts, joining some blogging newsletters and a Facebook group or two about blogging so that you can ask questions.
I have a Facebook group you are very welcome to join. Sign up here.
You may also wish to take a beginners blogging course to learn all the basics a little faster.
Maybe try this beginners WordPress course.
Once you’ve worked out how to navigate and work with WordPress and you’ve got a handle on the basics, you may wish to learn more about SEO, affiliate marketing, social media or email marketing.
Again, I would recommend starting with an online course if you are a beginner to avoid months of mistakes!
Here are a few resources you may want to consider…
Once you have a basic handle on these important topics, you should also have worked out what you enjoy and what you don’t enjoy. This will help you to choose the right blog coach.
You don’t want to hire an Instagram coach if you realise you’re actually not a fan of social media! That would be a giant waste of money.
You will also have worked out if you want to blog as a business or as a hobby.
It is only really worth investing in blogging or online business coaching if you plan to make money. Otherwise your blog will end up costing you money with no way to recoup the costs.
When you are investing in coaching services, you are spending money in order to make more money!
Coaching services for intermediate and advanced bloggers
You may wish to consider blogging coaching if you fall into any of these categories…
- You’re growing and monetising your blog but progress is slow and you need a fresh set of eyes to work out how you can speed up your business growth.
- You’re feeling a little lost, burnout or demotivated and you need someone to help you work out what direction you want to go in.
- You’re starting a new venture (like starting an email list or launching a product) and need some help to get it right from the offset.
- You launched a product and it flopped. You need someone to work out where it went wrong and find ways to make it more successful going forward.
- Your business is successful but it’s time to scale. You want to hire a team, automate more of your systems and grow faster.
Benefits of blog coaching
A blogging coach is usually someone who has lots of experience in the industry and is at least a few steps ahead of you.
They’ve made mistakes, they’ve had big wins, they’ve also had losses. They can help you reach where they are without making the same mistakes along the way so that you can reach the same point much faster.
It can also be useful to get a fresh set of eyes on something. When you are too close to a project, you might not spot something which is glaring obvious to someone else who is looking at the bigger picture. They might have some exciting new ideas or be able to see an issue you hadn’t noticed.
And sometimes, you just need to bounce ideas off someone or have a little bit of encouragement on days when imposter syndrome sets in or you’ve launched a product that flopped.
When I’ve had coaching in the past, the ideas don’t necessarily come from them. They come from me. But they are prompted to the surface by my coach asking me the right questions to bring them out of me.
So in short, hiring a blog coach can be a great idea to help your business grow faster as well as help you to regain some perspective, confidence and work-life balance.
How does blog coaching work?
Every coach works differently. But most will ask you to fill in an onboarding form to learn more about you and your blog or online business.
You will then have a scheduled session where your coach will start by asking you lots of questions to start to unpick the issues.
Sometimes they will offer advice, ideas or strategies. Other times they will work on limiting beliefs and mindset. Whatever you and your blog needs most.
Some blogging coaches will look over your work if you need some direct feedback and others will charge extra for this as a blog audit.
By the time you finish your coaching session, you should have an action plan or to-do list for moving forward.
What type of blog coaching is right for you?
There are several types of blog coaching services which we will discuss next including
- Traditional one-on-one online coaching e.g. via Zoom
- Day of Voxer sessions
- Regular coaching
- One off strategy days
- Group coaching
- Audits and project feedback (written or verbal)
Let’s look at some of these blog coaching options in more depth…
Day of Voxer vs traditional zoom call
You may be more familiar with traditional coaching which is usually a 1 hour one-to-one session delivered via a tool like Zoom, Skype or Google Meet.
But there is a new way to work with a blogging mentor which is becoming increasingly popular and that is a ‘day of Voxer.’
These sessions usually allow easy access to a coach for a longer period of time via the free walkie talkie app Voxer.
Rather than being a continuous coaching session, it’s held at a steady pace throughout the day meaning that your coach can make suggestions and you can take some time to fully absorb their advice and then come back with more questions.
Often with traditional coaching, you think of all your questions later after your session when it is too late to ask!
It also gives you time to brainstorm ideas and then get feedback on the work that you do during your session.
These sessions may be appealing to those who have busy lives and trying to schedule a sit down one-on-one session in the right time zone sounds like a headache. Instead you can get on with your life, pop to the shops, walk the dog or pick the kids up from school and just communicate throughout the day as ideas or questions pop into your head.
This is the way I run my own blog coaching sessions and my clients so far have loved it! The best part is we don’t even have to get out of our PJs if we don’t want to. It’s super laid back.
When I asked for feedback about the format, one of my students, Christine said “I appreciated having the time to digest things that were talked about and also come up with new items“
So whilst traditional coaching might be what you first had in mind, consider alternative styles of coaching and if they may suit you better!
Regular vs adhoc
Next you need to decide if you want an adhoc session to help you kickstart or troubleshoot a project or if you want ongoing sessions over a period of time. Many coaches will offer both options with a discount applied for longer term contracts.
If you don’t see that as an option on their sales page, try reaching out to them as many will be accommodating to your specific needs.
Group coaching
Another option is to join group coaching. Whilst there is less one-on-one feedback, you can learn a lot from the other students and you’ll be part of a community which can be really helpful.
Blog coaching or feedback?
You also need to ask yourself, is it coaching you need? Or perhaps it’s just a pair of eyes to look something over and give you feedback. Don’t be afraid to tell coaches what your personal needs are and they can help you to choose the right package for your needs.
Taking online courses vs blog coaching?
Another option is to take self-paced online courses. The benefit is that you can refer back to the content at any time and they will cover a lot of scope. (If you choose the right courses that is!)
Some courses even come with some ‘Voxer office hours’ as a bonus.
The disadvantage to courses is that firstly the information isn’t personally tailored to you.
Secondly, it’s easy to collect courses and not take action. Sometimes just having a coach to be accountable to can be enough to make you more proactive and finally move the needle inside your business.
Remember if a coach doesn’t offer the package you need, reach out to them as they may be happy to do something customised for you.

Choosing the right Blog coach for your business
It’s super important that you choose a business coach with the skills, expertise and personality traits best suited to help you get results.
What topics do you need your blog coach to specialise in?
This is a big one. Blogging is a huge topic and each blogging mentor may specialise in different topics such as SEO, email marketing, digital products, affiliate marketing, social media influencing, working with brands, Pinterest etc…
So make sure you understand what your potential coaches speciality areas are and decide if they are aligned with your needs.
For example, I specialise in passive income strategy (SEO, affiliate marketing/email marketing/selling digital products.) If someone wanted to grow their Instagram and work with brands, I would not be the coach for them.
However, if they wanted to monetise their blog with passive income strategies or launch a new product into the world, then I could be a good fit.
What personality traits should your blog coach have?
Think about what sort of personality traits you’d like in a coach as you will want to avoid personality clashes!
The reason I chose Elizabeth Goddard as my own business coach is because we are actually quite alike. We are both multi-passionate and enjoy creating multiple products rather than zero-ing down on a signature project. That would bore me silly and I know she’s said the same in the past.
I’m also excellent at making excuses so I need someone who won’t put up with any nonsense. I remember making every excuse under the sun about why I couldn’t increase my prices (even though I secretly knew I should and my current prices were a little crazy.) She listened quietly and then told me ‘well that was all a lot of nonsense but I think you know that already.’ It was the no-BS talking to that I needed to take action! 😂
So have a think about what sort of person could help you get the results you need.
- Do you respond better to someone who asks questions and lets you come to your own conclusions?
- Or do you prefer someone who will guide you more proactively?
- Do you need a kick up the butt occasionally or are you better with gentle encouragement?
- Are you drawing a blank for how to progress and you need someone who is creative and full of ideas?
What experience does your blogging coach have?
Lately I’ve seen a trend of people starting blogs about blogging who have actually never blogged!
Even worse, I recently saw someone had a coaching service but their own income report on their website showed they were barely earning any money themselves yet.
So be a little careful and make sure you check out your potential blog coaches credentials.
- Have they spoken at well known summits or conferences?
- Are other bloggers recommending them, collaborating with them or promoting their stuff as affiliates?
- Are they giving good advice inside their Facebook groups?
- Do they have testimonials?
- Do they share screenshots or proof of their own results on sales pages?
How much should you spend on blog coaching?
Don’t fall into the trap of choosing the cheapest blog coach you can find. Remember you are spending money to make money here and it is better to find the right coach for you.
Personally, I’d have reservations about working with someone who is undercharging for their services. Do they have enough experience to help me price my own services? Are they lacking in confidence or experience?
That said, if you are not making any money yet, shelling out 5 figures for the top online business coach probably isn’t a smart move either. You’re not ready for that.
In fact, a top business coach is probably going to be out of touch with what you need right now.
As you become more experienced and business savvy, you’ll probably find yourself paying more for coaching as you need someone with more experience. My business coach, for example, charges $4500 for her 3 month group coaching package. Her one off ‘day of voxer’ rates are $1000/day.
But if you’re not at the point (and earning 6 figures is a still long way off for you) then you absolutely do not need to spend 4 figures!
Most blog coaches will charge between $100-500 per hour/session depending on their level of experience and they type of coaching they are offering.
If you blog is already growing steadily then you should be able to easily recoup your costs by actioning the advice they give.
Does your blogging coach have testimonials?
Look for testimonials from other students and clients.
If the coaching service is new, they might not have many yet so instead, look at the sales pages for their other online courses and check they are getting good testimonials and case studies.
You can see some of my testimonials here.
Get to know your blog coach before you shell out!
Before you pay a lot of money for coaching, get on your potential coaches email list. Join their Facebook group if they have one and follow them on social media. You may even consider getting one or more of their courses.
All of this is going to help you find the perfect coach for you. Someone who specialises in the topics you need help with. Someone who can bring out the best in you. And most importantly NOT someone who lacks experience and will give you bad advice!
My own blog coaching services
As I’ve mentioned earlier, if you want to grow your Instagram likes and work with brands, I am NOT the coach for you.
But if you want to zero in on any of the following topics, then consider booking a strategy session with me.
- SEO and blog traffic
- Affiliate marketing
- List growth and email marketing
- Creating and selling digital products
- Collaborations with other bloggers / running an affiliate program
- Automating your business for a more hands off approach.
I run my new coaching program as Voxer sessions and offer both half and full day strategy sessions.
Whilst I believe this approach is more conducive to getting result for my coaching clients, if you are dead set on a one hour zoom call, please get in touch and I can arrange this for you!
My strengths lie in strategising creative ideas so you will probably come away from our sessions with and action plan packed with new ideas and strategies to try.
So whether you decide I am the right coach for you or not, I hope this article will help you to choose the right type of mentorship for you to start seeing the results that you desire and turn your blog into a profitable and successful business!
I’m rooting for you!
